The Grocer and Sam the simpleton - "As you sow, so shall you reap"
Sam lived in a village ..
He had a Drum stick tree in the house garden
Once a week, he used to pluck the Drumsticks and fill the
bag and put them on the shoulder ....
Walk to the nearest town nine kilometers away and sell it to
a regular grocer
In exchange the grocer gave him stuff like sugar, rice,
lentils, bread etc.
The taste of Sam’s drumstick was very popular among the local
folk.
The grocer also used to make a good profit due to the demand
for Sam’s Drumstick.
The grocer did not weigh the drumstick, as he has been
buying them from Sam for many years;
Sam's honesty was well known to everyone!
One day Sam gave 10kgs of Drumsticks and in return took home
groceries.
Coincidentally a cook came immediately to the grocer and
asked for 10kg of drumsticks.
When the grocer took Sam’s Drumsticks and put them on the
measuring scale there was only 9kg. He immediately got furious and thought
about the hundreds of times he had got the drumsticks from Sam. The grocer
realised that he had been taken for a ride and decided to teach Sam a proper
lesson. He felt betrayed.
As luck would have it, Sam came back within 4 days with
another 10kg load of drumsticks.
The grocer called all his customers and put the load on the
measuring scale. As expected, there was only 9kg Drumsticks.
Everybody who knew Sam was a good and righteous man felt
betrayed. The grocer started abusing Sam in front of everyone.
Tears started flowing down Sam’s face.
When everyone had had their fill abusing Sam, he replied
with folded hands.
“Oh, master forgive me if I have done any misdeeds. As I am
a very poor man, I don’t have the exact counter weights as you have in your
shop. So I have been using your grocery supplies to weigh my Drumsticks and I
have been supplying it to you only based on it. Apart from this I don’t know
anything else.
I don’t know what is right or wrong in my deeds. Please
forgive me.”
Everybody was aghast and the grocer especially was
thunderstuck.
He thought if he cheated Sam the simpleton nobody would
notice and he had been cheating Sam of 10% of his supplies.
He realized that his betrayal had come back to him!
What we give is what will come back to us Good deeds will
give good and Bad will give bad.
What goes around has to come around.
Whatever a man sows, he will reap.
So Sow only good things.
